Brewer Park played host to the Ontario Long-Track Speed Skating Championships on Jan. 14-15, with local athletes earning a big chunk of the prizes. Bolstered by a 1st-place finish in the 3,000 metres and a 2nd in the 1,000 m, Gloucester Concordes skater Lily Weidemann – the younger sibling of national team training centre-based athletes Isabelle and Jake Weidemann – was the all-around provincial women’s champion.

Host National Capital club dominates tournament

A total of 182 athletes participated in the 13th-annual National Capital Wrestling Festival on Jan. 14 at Maurice-Lapointe high school in Kanata. National capital wrestlers combined to give the host club a combined record of 50 wins and 20 losses in their matches.

Goalkeeper Erik Holmes moved up in the play and scored the equalizer in the final minute to salvage a crucial point for his Centurions team during the Ottawa Futsal Club’s popular annual Bob Rathwell Memorial Futsal Tournament, held from Jan. 27-29 at various gyms in Ottawa’s west end.
