The third-annual Ottawa Sport Summit is set for Nov. 26 at Lansdowne Park’s Horticulture Building. The theme of this year’s day-long gathering of the local sports community will be: “Engage. Inspire. Sustain. Creating Your Volunteer Movement.”

Gloucester wins men’s Ontario Cup, Cumberland shines at ER Cup finals

The Gloucester Celtic won their second senior men’s Ontario Cup in 4 years on Sept. 10 in Vaughan. The 2013 national champs knocked off the two-time defending provincial/national champs from London in their semi-final, then held off Caledon 1-0 on the strength of Alex Decouvreur’s goal just before halftime.

Pair of national medals for Ottawa Rowing Club pairs

Gillian Cross and Hayley Watt of the Ottawa Rowing Club were the junior women’s pair Canadian champions, while clubmates Luke Gadsdon and Hunter Amesbury brought home the bronze medal in the under-23 men’s pair event from the Sept. 22-25 National Rowing Championships in Burnaby Lake, B.C.

Nepean lacrosse leads large local crew crowned Canadian champs

Team Canada water polo stars visit Wave coach’s summer camp

Local water polo players got a special treat at this year’s edition of Celso’s Lake Camp, run each summer by Capital Wave Water Polo Club head coach Celso Rojas near Low, Que. with a visit from Team Canada players David Lapins, Krystina Alogbo (the Canadian women’s team captain), Dominique Perreault and Barrhaven’s Jessica Gaudreault of Capital Wave.

Futuro soccer team turns heads in UK

The Ottawa City Futuro under-12 boys’ soccer team scored nothing-but-wins over youth teams from five British professional clubs during a 10-day overseas trip in August.

The Futuro opened with a 4-2 victory over the Bristol Rovers, followed by 8-1 and 11-0 wins over Cardiff City and Swansea City. Then came a big 5-3 triumph over Southampton.

“They were absolutely shocked by our performance as the only teams that they struggle against are Manchester City and Chelsea,” reports Futuro coach Sanjeev Parmar by e-mail.
