Historic trio of hat tricks for local para soccer player

Led by Ottawa native Samuel Charron’s 15 goals in 6 games, Canada’s para-soccer team qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Argentina. The 18-year-old was a dominant force at the July 29-Aug. 6 Qualification Tournament in Denmark, becoming not only the youngest player in Canadian Soccer Association history to score a hat trick, but the first ever to score three goals in three consecutive games.

OSU player wins CONCACAF silver in Canada debut

Three days before Ottawa South United Force player Bella Hanisch played for Canada at the Aug. 9-21 CONCACAF U15 Championships in Orlando, she met her teammates for the first time, but that didn’t stop her Canadian team from bringing home a silver medal.

Erica Wiebe’s Olympics started and ended the same way: singing O Canada. Canadians from coast to coast watched the 27-year-old wrestler from Stittsville sing our national anthem from the top of the podium in Rio, but first came a more intimate rendition.
