Field lacrosse is only in its fifth year of operation as an official NCSSAA sport, but the national capital high school sports association will play host to the OFSAA provincial festival for the second time in that span.

National capital athletes had a remarkable performance at the 2013 OFSAA badminton championships, bringing home a pile of medals from the May 2-4 event in Pain Court, near Chatham.

The National Capital Secondary Schools Athletic Association will host the 2013 OFSAA boys’ rugby championships and this year they’re trying something that hasn’t been done too often – they’re holding two OFSAAs in one. 

It wasn’t the golden finish they would have preferred, but fifth-best in the province was nothing to shake their sticks at for the local representatives, as the nation’s capital hosted the OFSAA girls’ field hockey championships for the first time since 1986 from Nov. 1-3 in Barrhaven and Nepean.

It’s at least a four-horse race, with several others chasing closely, as local high school teams battle through league play for two available berths in the OFSAA girls’ field hockey championships, coming to the Nepean Sportsplex Nov. 1-3.

The John McCrae Bulldogs and the Merivale Marauders will be chasing after what would be a historic first-ever title for the national capital association when they carry the hometown hopes into the Nov. 1-3 OFSAA girls' field hockey championships in Barrhaven and Nepean.

Two local schools won medals at the OFSAA curling championships – hosted unexpectedly in Ottawa from March 20-23 – and as much as they treasured their prizes, simply getting the chance to compete was big for the Sir Robert Borden girls and the Osgoode Township boys.

With a little help from their friends at Louis-Riel, the 2013 edition of the long-running Woodroffe Cup high school soccer tournament stayed alive this year, taking place March 21-22 at the Louis-Riel Dome.

Ottawa has never been seen as a real hotspot for high school wrestling. The public school teachers’ job action cut participation by a third or more this year. And last month, the International Olympic Committee blindsided the sport with possible exclusion from the 2020 Games.
