It takes but a few seconds to notice that there’s a certain energy and excitement at Louis-Riel high school. It’s the product, in large part, of a student body that’s passionate about sport, and there’s nowhere better to live that sporting spirit than with the exploratory sports program at LR.

En entrant dans l’édifice de l’école secondaire publique Louis-Riel, on constate rapidement beaucoup d’énergie et d’enthousiasme chez les élèves et les membres du personnel. C’est en grande partie parce que chacun est passionné par le sport et que les élèves ont ainsi l’occasion de vivre leur passion, notamment avec le programme sports-exploratoires. Ce programme destiné aux élèves de 7e et de 8e années vise à enseigner une grande variété de sports aux élèves tout au long de l’année scolaire.

NAME: Patrick Smith AGE: 22 SCHOOL: 4th-year University of Ottawa human kinetics student START IN TRIATHLON: “I started as a competitive swimmer. I did cross-country and track in high school at SRB. Each of my coaches knew I did both, so they said, ‘Bike is easy enough to pick up, so hey, go try one, have fun, and see how you like it.’ I did one race in Dunrobin, then I signed up for a season and just never looked back.”

Ottawa South United (OSU) had 12 outstanding players selected to be part of Team Ontario. Isabella Hanisch (U14 girls), Matteo de Brienne (U14 boys), Kayza Massey (U15 girls), Daniel Assaf, Antonio Carlini, Mehdi Essoussi and Nana Nuama-Mensah (U15 boys), Emily Amano and Mollie Eriksson (U16 girls), and Barou Mbuyamba, Tony Mikhael and Montther Mohsen (U16 boys) represented Ontario during the annual Ontario vs Quebec matches in May.
