Carleton University student Melissa Armstrong of Saskatchewan and University of Ottawa and Kanata softball grad Jenna Flannigan of Cornwall helped Canada win a silver medal at the Women’s Baseball World Cup Sept. 3-11 in South Korea.

Ottawa West and East Nepean combined to enter a team from the western portion of the city, while Orleans, Prescott-Russell, Glebe, South Ottawa and Carleton-Russell made up an Ottawa East squad.

The Ottawa resident from North Delta, B.C. will have the opportunity to play in the Women’s World Softball Championship next door to her hometown from July 15-24 in Surrey, B.C.

What a difference a day makes. On a mid-August Saturday, East Nepean Eagles players rushed the mound after their game. They met in a mess of hugs, shouts and water bottle showers to celebrate a breakthrough win against rival High Park and a spot in the Canadian Little League Championships final on their home field at Ken Ross Park in Barrhaven.
