It's taking longer than usual this year for the snow to melt off local diamonds, but that hasn't stopped organizers of the inaugural Baseball Day in Ottawa from dreaming of the sounds of summer.

Baseball Day is a unique collaborative effort on behalf of the entire baseball community, including Little League Associations from Pembroke, Kemptville, West Ottawa, Glebe, South Ottawa as well as the adult National Capital Baseball League, members of the Ligue de baseball de l’Outaouais, the new CAN-AM team scheduled to begin play in 2015, and the local business community.

Demi Orimoloye is having a summer he won’t soon forget. The 16-year-old from Orleans recently toured New England with the national junior baseball team, and he’s now on the cusp of representing Canada at the Aug. 30-Sept. 8 International Baseball Federation Under 18 World Cup in South Korea. He’ll travel to Australia on Aug. 13 for the start of the final selection process.
