The Ottawa Curling Club rink of skip Rachel Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Joanne Courtney and lead Lisa Weagle has been on absolute fire to start the 2015-16 season, winning 5 of 6 tournaments they’ve entered and reaching the final of the other.

Team Homan leads this season’s World Curling Tour order of merit by an unheard of 160+-point margin ahead of Team Jennifer Jones (417.613-255.746) thanks to tournament triumphs in Oakville, Stockholm and Calgary and Grand Slam event victories in Truro, NS and most recently in Oshawa Nov. 10-15.

Team Homan blasts off with perfect record at season’s first WCT event

The Ottawa Curling Club rink of Lisa Weagle, Joanne Courtney, Emma Miskew and skip Rachel Homan got their 2015-16 season off to a perfect start with a 7-0 record and women’s title at the season-opening World Curling Tour event in Oakville.

The 2014 Canadian university-champion Carleton Ravens rink of Jessica Armstrong, Lauren Horton and Lynn Kreviazuk, along with new skip Breanne Meakin (in place of Jamie Sinclair, now based in the U.S.), was undefeated through their first 6 matches in the women’s curling competition at the Feb. 4-14 FISU Winter World University Games in Granada, Spain.

Nepean City soccer special needs program takes True Sport prize

The Nepean City Soccer Club (which recently merged with the Ottawa Royals) won the 2014 True Sport Give-Back Challenge and received a $3,000 prize to support a pair of club initiatives: a program for youth with developmental disabilities and a project to involve new Canadians from the Bayshore area in community soccer.

Team Homan reaches 2 big finals

The Rachel Homan Ottawa Curling Club rink reached the final in back-to-back top-flight international events in December, finishing as runner-up at the Canadian Open in Saskatchewan and the Canada Cup in Alberta behind Eve Muirhead and Val Sweeting respectively.
