Much like the young athletes they’ve nurtured over the 12 years since their 2005 opening in the Kanata/Stittsville area, Olympia Gymnastics is all grown up now thanks to a recent expansion that brings the popular centre up to 15,000 square feet.

Eric Gauthier and Ben Astorga of the Ottawa Gymnastics Centre produced a 1-2 finish for the host club in the national open competition as OGC hosted the first men’s artistic gymnastics Ontario Cup meet of the season from Dec. 9-11 in Westboro.

Haley Miller of the Kanata Rhythmic Gymnastics Club recorded a 3rd-place finish in the rope event at a competition in Italy while on tour with Team Ontario. The early-July trip also included a week-long training camp with former Olympian Aliah Garaeva, a 2011 all-around World Championships medallist who competed for Russia and later Azerbaijan.

En entrant dans l’édifice de l’école secondaire publique Louis-Riel, on constate rapidement beaucoup d’énergie et d’enthousiasme chez les élèves et les membres du personnel. C’est en grande partie parce que chacun est passionné par le sport et que les élèves ont ainsi l’occasion de vivre leur passion, notamment avec le programme sports-exploratoires. Ce programme destiné aux élèves de 7e et de 8e années vise à enseigner une grande variété de sports aux élèves tout au long de l’année scolaire.

Competing in the first Canadian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships of her career from May 20-22 in Winnipeg, Haley Miller also won the first national medal of her career, walking away with a silver in the rope event.
