Rattray stars in Team Canada triumph

Kanata native Jamie Lee Rattray played the hero’s role for the Canadian women’s national development team at the Jan. 4-7 Nations Cup tournament in Germany, scoring the overtime winner to beat Finland 4-3 in the final.

Dorion & Delaney take World Sledge Hockey Challenge silver

Ottawa national sledge hockey team players Marc Dorion and Ben Delaney had to settle for a heartbreaking silver medal from the Jan. 17-23 Hockey Canada-organized World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Nova Scotia, falling 3-2 in overtime to USA in the tournament final.

Medals of all colours for local women’s hockey elite

Ottawa native Erica Howe made the first senior international start of her career for the Canadian women’s hockey team on Nov. 7 at the Four Nations Cup, stopping 11 of 12 shots in a 3-1 victory over host Sweden.

Rebels rebound for ball hockey bronze at home nationals

A day after a loss of the most deflating variety – their only defeat of the tournament – the Ottawa Rebels women’s ball hockey team came back out for the bronze medal match on Aug. 15 at the Canadian Ball Hockey Association National Championships and finished up their home event with a victory at Walkley Arena.

Local hockey products shine for U18 Team Canada

Ottawa’s William Bitten helped the national men’s under-18 hockey team to its 8th-straight gold medal at the summertime Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in Czech Republic, while Ottawa Senators Provincial Women’s Hockey League forwards Anonda Hoppner and Tasza Tarnowski helped the Canadian U18 women to a 2-1 exhibition series victory over USA in Lake Placid, NY.

They couldn’t have lost in much more heart-breaking fashion – double-overtime in the championship game – but there were plenty of smiles nonetheless for the Nepean Wildcats as they collected their silver medals from the Bantam ‘AA’ division at the April 9-12 Ontario Women’s Hockey Association provincial championships in Mississauga.

Louis-Riel wraps up OFSAA with antique-bronze

The Louis-Riel Rebelles train ran out of fuel on the last day of the March 9-12 OFSAA ‘AAA/AAAA’ Girls’ Hockey Championships as they settled for an antique-bronze medal with a 2-1 loss to Father Leo J. Austin Wildcats, finishing fourth out of 20 teams.

OFSAA basketball & hockey podiums for home teams

Local teams won medals in both the OFSAA provincial high school sports championships hosted in town from March 9-12, with the Merivale Marauders earning bronze in the ‘AA’ boys’ basketball event and the Louis-Riel Rebelles taking antique-bronze for 4th place in ‘AAA/AAAA’ girls’ hockey.
