Ottawa orienteer gets Canada’s top result at jr. worlds

Robert Graham of Orienteering Ottawa was the top Canadian men’s performer at the July 9-15 Junior World Orienteering Championships in Switzerland. The Canadians finished well back of most competitors, largely from the European countries that make up the sport’s hotbed.

Sport volunteers don’t often get medals for their efforts, but it makes it much more likely when the volunteer also happens to be one of the top competitors in the sport.
That was the case for Jeff Teutsch, one of the lead organizers for Ottawa Orienteering at the Oct. 10-13 North American Orienteering Championships and also a silver medalist in the men’s middle distance race.

Ottawa native Emily Kemp, who moved to France in 2010 to pursue her sport at the highest level while studying chemistry, placed fifth in the middle distance race at the Aug. 12-16 World University Orienteering Championships in Czech Republic.

Ottawa Orienteering's Eric Kemp was the men's champion at the Ottawa Orienteering Festival Sept. 21-22 in Gatineau Park, winning the Canada Cup Series event by 13 seconds in a combined two-course time of 1:43:20.
