Miracle League field construction underway

Ground was “officially” broken (well after the tractors have already gotten busy) for the construction of Ottawa’s Miracle League field – a safe and accessible baseball field and playground for children with special needs – on a chilly late-November day in Notre-Dame-des-Champs.

London 2012 Paralympian Patrice Dagenais and the Canadian wheelchair rugby team earned a silver medal at June's Canada Cup International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament in Richmond, B.C., dropping the final to Australia 62-54.

Competing in his first marathon, Ottawa Lions athlete Tommy Des Brisay was the top local finisher in the 40th anniversary edition of the Ottawa Marathon, placing 23rd in a time of 2:39:21.1.

Being totally blind apparently wasn’t enough of a challenge, so race organizers loaded up Jason Dunkerley with a 7-lb. vest as well, but he still couldn’t be stopped from posting the fastest 5 km time at the Alive to Strive race on Sunday, April 27 at Terry Fox Athletic Facility.

5 new faces in Ottawa Sports Hall

Ottawa Akademy snowboarder John Leslie received the Auclair Team Spirit Award from Canada Snowboard in April in recognition of his strong results, leadership skills, positive impact on teammates, dedication to his community and for acting as excellent representative for the sport at home and abroad.
