On top of Kelleigh Ryan’s exclusion due to her fencing event rotating out of of the Olympics this quadrennial, sport politics kept another local athlete out of the Games as well. Two-time Olympic hammer thrower Sultana Frizell of the Ottawa Lions Track-and-Field Club was not nominated for Canada’s track-and-field team despite hitting the international standards set out to make her eligible.

McCulloch’s 11th leads Lions results at IAAF U20 worlds

Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School student Shona McCulloch ran to a 5-second personal best and a Canadian youth record of 9:16.93 when she placed 11th in the women’s 3,000 m at the July 19-24 IAAF World Under-20 Track-and-Field Championships.
