Ottawa Lions athlete Emma Galbraith not only achieved her goal of reaching the final in the women’s 800 metres at the Commonwealth Youth Games today, she did it by winning her heat in a time of two minutes, 16.42 seconds.

After missing the vast majority of last year’s outdoor season, Ottawa Lions sprinter Esther Akinsulie showed she’s rounding back into form quite nicely with silver and bronze medal victories on the final day of the Canadian track-and-field championships June 22-25 in Calgary.

Call doesn’t come for Lions’ Smith at world championships

Ottawa Lions sprinter Seyi Smith attended the IAAF world track-and-field championships last week in South Korea, but didn’t wind up competing since he was chosen for the alternate role in the men’s 4x100-metre relay.
It was his personal coach with the Lions that made that call as national team relay coach, but Smith fully accepted Glenroy Gilbert’s reasoning to keep him on the sidelines.

Akinsulie moves big step closer to Olympic qualification

 Ottawa Lions sprinter Esther Akinsulie and her Canadian 4x400-metre relay teammates got hit by some bad luck at the worst time, but still managed to pull off a performance that drew them a step closer to the London 2012 Olympics at the IAAF track-and-field world championships on Saturday, Sept. 3 in South Korea.
