As the fast-paced sport of ultimate Frisbee continues its rise to prominence across Canada, Ottawa players will make up a sizeable chunk of Team Canada squads at the Under-23 world championships in Toronto and the 2013 World Games in Colombia this July.

A pair of Ottawa ultimate players were selected to be part of the Canadian 2013 World Games team program last month. Danielle Fortin and Anne Mercier were two of the 19 players chosen to compete for the 13 available spots on Team Canada for the July 28-30 event in Colombia.

World bronze for local ultimate women

Eight Ottawa ultimate players won a bronze medal at the July 7-14 World Flying Disk Federation world championships in Japan as the Canadian women's team finished third with an overall record of 10-2.

Seven years ago, a group of Ontario women with a lofty goal came together. Five years ago, their dream was nearly realized, but a heartbreaking loss dashed their hopes. Finally, though, eight local Ottawa athletes and 17 teammates from across the country will be heading to Sakai, Japan this summer to represent Canada at the World Ultimate Championships.
